What’s Really in Your Moisturiser? MATER Beauty in The Post

I recently had the pleasure of sharing my perspective on moisturiser ingredients with The Post.

Ingredients is one of my favourite things to talk (on and on...) about. The science is fascinating, but not as much as how different it is from some of the crazy hype shared of TikTok. It’s always a privilege to cut through the noise and speak honestly about what actually works in skincare, because, as I said for the article:

Knowledge is power! Especially in the skincare industry where marketing is so unregulated and claims brands make can be meaningless and very misleading. When you understand ingredients, you can see that trendy doesn’t always mean effective, or suitable for your skin. Understanding what’s actually in your products helps you make smarter choices for your unique skin, rather than falling for whatever’s trending on social media.”

I am a big beliver in ingredient transparency. There’s a lot of marketing fluff out there, but your skin deserves formulas that are gentle, effective, and backed by real science.

My favourite ingredients include Bakuchiol (a gentle, plant-based retinol alternative), oil-soluble Vitamin C, N-acetyl glucosamine, and good old glycerin. These are multitaskers—chosen for visible results, even for sensitive skin.

Hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, is an ingredient that has been so wildly hyped over the year, but it wouldn't even make my top three humectants! Glycerin is a classic (and cheap!) ingredient that is a gold standard for deep, lasting hydration that actually supports the skin barrier. A very close second for me is Saccharide Isomerate - a plant-derived humectant that mimics skin's Natural Moisturising Factors and can lock moisture in for up to 72hrs, even after washing!

At MATER Beauty, our motto is “Do Less, Expect More.” That means simple routines, powerful ingredients, and real results.

No unnecessary steps or empty promises.
